Frequently Asked Questions

We know navigating licensing requirements can be overwhelming—but that’s exactly why we’re here. Our goal is to simplify the process and give you everything you need to pass with confidence.

What's the difference between the "B" and "C" Contractor Licenses?

The key difference between the National Standard Residential Building Contractor "C" (ICC G13) and the National Standard Building Contractor "B" (ICC G12) lies in the scope of work each license allows:

Class C (ICC G13) – Residential Contractor

Limited to one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses up to three stories.

Exam focuses solely on the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC).

Class B (ICC G12) – Building Contractor

Allows contractors to construct, remodel, or repair commercial buildings up to three stories as well as residential structures.

Exam covers the 2018 International Building Code (IBC), 2018 International Residential Code (IRC), and the 2021 Concrete Manual.

In short: Class B contractors can work on both commercial and residential projects, while Class C contractors are restricted to residential projects only.

Important: Always check with your local building department to confirm which license is required for the type of project you plan to complete. If you have questions, we’re happy to be a resource and share our professional opinion to help you make the right choice.

How do I get my license? What is the process?

To obtain your Class C General Contractor license in Colorado, you must pass the National Standard Residential Building Contractor “C” (ICC G13) Exam through Pearson VUE. Our course fully prepares you with structured instruction, textbook mastery, and realistic exam simulations.

For the Class B General Contractor license, you'll need to pass the more advanced National Standard Building Contractor “B” (ICC G12) Exam, also administered via Pearson VUE. This course offers in-depth coverage of the 2018 IBC and IRC codes, reinforced by comprehensive exam strategies tailored to the Class B scope

After completing either course:

We’ll assist you in finding a Pearson VUE testing center and navigating the registration process.

Once you pass the exam, we’ll guide you through applying for your license with the proper state or municipal authority.

Whether you're pursuing Class C (G13) or Class B (G12) licensing, our goal is the same: equip you with the knowledge and confidence to pass your exam and launch your contracting career in Colorado.

¿Hay cursos en español? / Are there Spanish speaking courses?

Our exam prep courses are taught in English, as the ICC contractor exams are primarily administered in English. However, the International Code Council (ICC) does offer some exams in Spanish, depending on the jurisdiction and exam type. To determine if the Class B (ICC G12) or Class C (ICC G13) exam is available in Spanish, we recommend checking directly with ICC or Pearson VUE, the official testing provider. If Spanish-language support is needed, some jurisdictions may allow candidates to bring an interpreter, but this requires prior approval.
